Cold week saw some impressive truffles.

Two nights of heavy frost last weekend helped finish some nice truffle this week. ~1100 grams worth finally reached maturity, two large truffles with wonderful aroma and impressive weights of 259 & 310grams.

What a shame, 591g and only good for a photo.

They compensated for this monster of 591grams that was unfortunately spoiled when it was discovered on Tuesday. Exact cause is uncertain, but a burrowing soil grub was present, and the top surface was exposed to the weekends heavy frosts. Colour within indicated it was less than 3/4 ripe, and it had gone quite soft throughout. It seems rare that truffles >250g survive to maturity.
